The fact that you can adjust the equaliser right from the app also means that you can tune the Buds Live to your liking. It automatically switches sound profiles when you are listening to a podcast, watching a video or when listening to music. You can also use the ‘Dynamic’ EQ setting which basically tunes the buds automatically according to the content. You can do that by Buds Live app and switching the equaliser to ‘Soft’. For live music, we would suggest turning down the bass a bit as it can overpower other frequencies. If you like listening to Hip-Hop or electronic music the Buds Live are ideal for you. The low-frequencies are represented well while the mid and high frequencies have enough headroom for clear sound. Having said that, the sound quality on the Galaxy Buds Live is exceptional across all genres of music.

However, if you are on a busy street, you will end up hearing ambient noise. To be honest, the Buds Live will work perfectly in flights to block off the engine sound and in public transportation. However, my loud dogs got the better of the feature as the Buds Live could not block out my dogs’ barks entirely.

I was able to block off the other person’s voice after turning on the ANC feature which was quite remarkable.

During the product briefing session, I amped up the volume on my laptop to full and sat right next to it. I tested the buds in two scenarios one being around extremely loud dogs and the other trying to block out noise during a product briefing. The ANC feature does not work as well as the Sony WF-1000XM3, but it gets the job done. However, we were quite impressed that Samsung still managed to get that feature working on the Buds Live. It also means that the ANC feature is not perfect. The Buds Live aren’t exactly your typical ANC TWS earbud as they have an open-back which does result in some sound leakage. The charging case also supports wireless charging which means you can use it with any Qi-wireless charger or use a Samsung Galaxy S20 or Note 20’s PowerShare feature. The charging case adds up to 21 hours of battery life which is more than enough for a long flight to the other part of the world. It is larger than the Buds Live but the square design works in its favour. The charging case on the Buds Live is also quite comfortable to hold and can easily be pocketed. However, if you have small ears, we recommend trying them first before purchasing. I have huge years so for me this design fits perfectly. You can still use them, but after a few hours, it can get a bit uncomfortable as mentioned by my partner. Having said that, there is one disadvantage to this design, if you have small ears, this may be too big for your ears. That’s the only complaint we had with the Sony WF-1000XM4 and we definitely prefer this design over bulky earphones. Since the Buds live don’t protrude, it doesn’t hurt your ears when using them laying down sideways. In fact, this design also works well if you like to watch content in bed and lay down sideways. The Galaxy Buds Live really do blend in with your ears as there’s nothing really protruding from your ear. It is a bit weird to place them in your ear canal at first, but you get the hang of it after a few tries. Due to the space of the earbuds, it fits in your ears perfectly and does not fall off even if you aggressively shake your head around.

The fact that it is not an AirPods Pro clone deserves a point in our book because we’re kind of tired seeing copied designs by Realme, Xiaomi and all the other brands that have flooded the market with half-baked earphones. Sure, it may look weird at first, but the design works in ways that you probably have not experienced before with regular TWS earbuds. Let’s just say the design of the Galaxy Buds Live is daring and the risk may even pay off for them, considering it doesn’t look like anything out there. Here’s what I think about the Galaxy Buds Live and how it sounded during our review period: Design

The TWS bean-shaped earbuds have active noise cancellation, better battery life than the Galaxy Buds and intuitive touch controls that is perfect for every Android user out there.

While I would have loved to test the Buds Live in a long flight, unfortunately, that is not possible at the moment. I’ve been using the Buds Live for almost a week to consume content on YouTube, listen to music on Spotify and of course to cancel out unwanted noise around me. It may look like rajma (beans) and may even look awkward to use at first, but for some reason, it works and it works well. Before we get started with the review, we do have to give our respect to Samsung for trying out a new design for a pair of TWS earphones.
